Bond 18 - Shooting Script - Rev 6/5/97 248D INT. U.S.A.F. C-130 - DAY Bond is in diving gear, with fins strapped to his chest, a parachute on his back, and bulky devices an altimeter and a GPS receiver on each wrist. An AIR FORCE MASTER SERGEANT recheck's Bond's equipment. Wade and DR. GREENWALT hover around the GPS equipment; Wade has a golf club in his hand. WADE (To Bond) The pilot's an old friend. We used to play poker. Seven card Cambodian stud - everything's wild! DR. GREENWALT (To pilot, over intercom) Change heading to 162. (To Bond) We're getting close. Maybe two minutes. The Jump Sergeant helps Bond to his feet. They go to the rear door. USAF MASTER SGT. We're using the commercial air corridor - like a regular flight - to Avoid suspicion. You bail out at twenty-nine thousand feet. When You hit the air out there, it's fifty-seven degrees below zero. You free fall for five miles - and use the oxygen, or you'll die of asphyxiation. Bond nods, in his suit. WADE Sounds like my first marriage. The jump Sergeant cuts Bond with a glance. Continues: USAF MASTER SERGEANT Next - after the free fall - you pop the chute at 200 feet, under the Chinese radar. You're going to be flying at over 200 miles an hour - so it's going to snap your head back like a cantaloupe. Be careful not to crack your skull open on the tanks. BOND I'll keep that in mind. WADE Sounds like an awful lot to save the world, Jimbo. BOND There's no choice. I have to prove that ship was deliberately set off course. PILOT (O.S.) One minute to jump site! BOND Is the pick up set? WADE Done. After the dive, you turn on your beacon, and the extraction team will get you after dark. BOND (To the Jump Sergeant) Any other advise? USAF MASTER SGT. Yeah, one last thing: When you hit the water, don't forget to cut away the chute. Ninety percent of the people who get killed doing a hi-lo jump get tangled up in the chute and drown. Got it? BOND ....It's a big ocean. I can't miss. The Jump Sergeant smile, thumps Bond on the back. USAF MASTER SGT. When that door opens - (Snaps his fingers) You're out. Wade and Bond share a look. WADE Definitely sounds like my first marriage. Ready? BOND ...The only reason I stay in this job is for the health insurance. As they move to the jump door - PILOT (O.S.) Fifteen seconds! WADE (on intercom to pilot) Let's pop the cork - We hear the sound of air rushing into the cabin. PILOT (O.S.) Starting decompression. Ten seconds from jump sight. Nine . . . Eight . . . (He continues the countdown, under:) DR. GREENWALT (panicked) Wait! Stop him! Those islands! He's not jumping into China. It's VIETNAM! USAF MASTER SGT. (appalled) Vietnam???? WADE (Insanely delighted) Vietnam? DR. GREENWALT Does he have any U.S. government markings on him?!?! USAF MASTER SGT ...Only the tanks. The wet suit. The parachute - PILOT (O.S.) Five - Four - DR. GREENWALT If they catch him, the Vietnamese are gonna' go crazy. We'll end up in front of Congress Wade smiles knowingly: WADE Son . . . Let me take care of Congress. And with this, he presses a button opening the jump door. The plane fills with wind. Wade casually turns around - just in time to see Bond dive out of the plane. WADE He didn't even say good-bye. 249 EXT. MESOSPHERE - DAY Bond holds his arms crossed over his chest, dropping straight down through the thin air . . . 250 BOND'S WRIST ALTIMETER winds toward zero like a watch zipping backwards through time. 251 BOND plummets faster and faster . . . 252 BOND'S GPS TRACKING DEVICE A cross hair target, with a flashing red dot jittering far from its center. 253 BOND begins to maneuver . . . 254 THE FLASHING RED DOT ON THE GPS TRACKING DEVICE drifts toward the center of the cross hairs as -
