I have seen GoldeEye, unfortunately only the once due to pressures of work, but I will see it several more times before at the cinema before it is released on home video. The film is well worth the wait and Brosnan just IS 007. The Bond movies have been redefined for the 1990's and beyond. There is not one fault with GoldenEye except why did he drive a foreign car in the form of the BMW Z3 (even though Aston Martin is owned by Ford, and 007 has driven non-British cars before-remember the Audi in The Living Daylights!!!).

I sincerely hope that the BMW is used again in the next films. If not, than it will be plainly obvious that this purely a product placment.

I heard that some US reviews said that the movie did not live up to others today, such as "True Lies" . The fact is that Bond does not have to "live up to anyone" as this series of films redifined the action genre, most notably with Goldfinger. Did you notice that we have a non-smoking 007 again? Despite all what has been said he is still a sexist, mysgenistic (hope I've spelled that OK!!) dinosaur, and quite rightly so!!

I agree. Bond created the action genre. As for "True Lies", there are so many rip offs from the Bond series in the first 10 minutes that I had to turn off the video! If anyone wants to know what was ripped off, send me email.

GoldenEye is definately up there with the others in the Bond series of movies, whilst it retains a very British style with a former BBC director (Martin Campbell) being at the helm, separating it from other action movies today. When 007 ordered a drink in the casino, a huge cheer went up in the cinema as another did when he said his name for the first time. The queues for the first screenings were phenominal with bookings in my home town of Blackburn and in the neighbouring town of Preston being sold out over a week in advance of the films release.

On opening night, I took 30 of my friends to see the film. Because of all the tickets I bought, I made the showing sold out. There was a huge uproar when people found out that the screening was sold out!

...I had some complaints about Goldeneye, that you didn't have, but thought I would tell you what they were, maybe you could tell me what you think. My biggest peeve about the movie was the strength of all the characters except for Bond himself...I think that Onatopp (sp?) and the Russian General (can't remember the name) were great characters, but when you had them (or M, or isabella) in the same scene...all i saw was them...Bond was relatively weak when compared to them...Bond didn't carry the aura about him that makes you fixate on him...all I noticed were the other (much stronger) characters...I think they should have either made Bond stronger, or toned down the other 'side' characters...

I agree with you. I think this is partly due to the newness of Brosnan to the role, and his interpretation of it.
It makes me wonder if maybe the script was written before Brosnan was finalized as Bond.

First off...I agree with you on most of your critiques of Goldeneye. It was a very "Bond" film. I feel that Brosnan will pull off Bond better than anyone since Sean Connery. There were some technical faults with the movie, but what movie doesn't have them?

Secondly...I (almost) totally disagree with your assessment of the Soundtrack. I think this is one of the best. The play on the Bond Overture (cut #2) was original in its presentation, but still had the elements of Barry's theme that we've all come to know and love. I think Tina Turner was positively awesome belting out the theme. All in all, a very good C.D....well worth the asking price.

I (almost) totally disagree with your opinion, except that I agree Tina Turner was awesome.

And finally...Let me know what you think the best "Bond" of them all is. Personally I think "Licence to kill"....but then again, I like them all.

I like all of the films and therefore refuse to chose a favorite. However, if a first-time Bond viewer asked me which movie they should see, I would say first read Casino Royale, and then watch From Russia With Love.
